Internet not as anonymous as you’d think

Posted in : Life

An opinion piece I wrote for work…

A ruling in Halifax, N.S., is one every person who posts on the Internet, whether anonymously or not, should pay attention to.

Many people who post online act as if the Internet relieves them of responsibility for their comments. Perhaps they think the Internet’s anonymity is a liberating thing: You can say what you think in a way that may be socially unacceptable. No one is going to reach through your monitor and punch you in the snotbox.

Skinny people eat bacterial slime

Posted in : Life

I have decided to go back to work at losing weight. I was doing really well adjusting my eating habits, exercise habits, etc., until my arthritis manifested back three or so years ago. I had dropped down below 300 pounds, and was continuing to lose weight. I can’t fit into the clothing I bought then, and when I went to buy pants this time, I had to go up a size.

Not good.

Bwahaha! No more pain!

Posted in : LOL, Life

In theory.

Right now, I’m pretty bitchy because of the pain.

You see, I had the third of four wisdom teeth removed today. I’m rather excited it’s gone because it’s been causing me a LOT of pain. Excruitiating, headache, face numbing pain. The dentist was just like “So, you want this out today?” And I nodded.

Now, of course, with no freezing, I almost want it back. Except it hurt more when it was in. I think. We’ll see. Here’s the story:

FOB Doc

Posted in : Life, News & Media

Awesome book. I found out about it after the Rotary Club was holding a shindig to honour Dr. Ray Wiss with an award. The Prime Minister stealthed in and out of Sudbury for a photo op. I’ll give SH a bit more credit, since he’s always supported our military, and say he was coming here to honour a great man. Because a great man is what Dr. Wiss is.

A tiny part of me fell in love with him through his journal, which was published as FOB Doc. It gives such a wonderfully eye-opening view of the war in Afghanistan, and the boredom and panic that exists there.

There were lines that made me laugh. For some reason, in the glossary for example, where Dr. Wiss is explaining the different types of IEDS… Roadside IED. Car-IED. Suicide IED. Suicide IED in a Car IED. Bike IED. Donkey IED. I just hooted with laughter. Donkey IED? A friend of mine deployed in the ‘Stan with the US Army has confirmed Donkey IEDs do exist. So maybe it’s not really funny, but it was at the time.

Anyways, money from the purchase of the book goes to the War Families Fund, which helps out families of deployed soldiers. It’s a good read — it made me want to be young, healthy, and over there.

Pick it up.

PS – Dr. Wiss, you rock. In case you somehow stumble over here.

Vindication!

Posted in : Life

As many of my friends know, my previous place of employment taught me a great deal about the website industry, and the horrible and painful place a workplace can be when the employers treat employees like garbage.

I went from being a person with self-confidence all the way to a person who wanted to kill herself, rather than face work, because of the people there.

While there were truly COOL people I met while working there — Trevor M, who had my back no matter what, Lynn S who hired me and was always kind and a reference even when I was still working there (like TM), and Danny, who was always a sympathetic ear and a big protective giant who kept me from slipping over the edge, even though his wife didn’t like me. Then there was Julie, who left before I’d been there long, and everyone was nasty about behind her back. That was the sort of place it was. I never said anything bad about her, as she’d always been kind to me.
