Welcome!
Welcome to my website. I’m Stacey Lavallie, a professional journalist, photographer and videographer living and working on one of the most beautiful Islands in North America.
This site is a combination of my personal portfolio and my personal thoughts.
For a sample of my written work, photography and videography, visit any of the links to the left. It’s a selection of work completed while working for Sudbury newspaper Northern Life, as a freelancer, and now as a reporter with The Manitoulin Expositor. It’s a wonderful selection of light-hearted, serious, and technical writing that showcases that I’m able to write about and cover several different types of news. Soon, I’ll be adding a sports section to that, as I’ve been able to branch out in that direction.
Or are you here because you have a story you want to tell? I can help you.
With tighter budgets and smaller newsrooms, newspapers and magazines don’t have the same resources available to them that they did 10 years ago. Journalists have less time and are doing more today then it would have been thought possible a mere two decades ago. After more than two years in the field — a year-and-a-half with Northern Life, a half-year freelancing and now with The Manitoulin Expositor, I’m able to help educate you on how to get the media’s attention.
Whether it’s writing a press release that has all the information needed to whet the interest of a desk reporter, pitching a story to a newspaper editor, or having a freelancer pitch it to a paper as a complete project, I can do that. I can help you make your news and your events POP! in the eyes of the reporter who reads the press release or teaser.
Or maybe you’re here because you need a photographer or videographer. I’m not going to claim to be a shining star; I’m still learning to better frame my shots. But if it’s a casual picnic or family event you want a digital record of, I’ll be happy to come along and point my lens and capture faces, moments and history for you.
Maybe you’re interested in my adventures in cooking, which usually result in me having to soak my pots so I can scrape the burned food off the bottom of the pot. Or just my personal life. Feel free to use the links to navigate around my blog and adventures. Feel free to share your thoughts with me, too. I love to hear what people think.
